WHO REALLY FOUNDED SINGAPORE?

We know from our History textbooks and prevailing national knowledge that Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. However, History books always include two other historical persons who also played a part in the early development of Singapore. They are William Farquhar and John Crawfurd. Their involvement with Singapore has remained till this very day as historical facts because after all, they did contributed to the pioneering of the country.

Raffles, Farquhar, Crawfurd or... ? Who do you think should be the founder of Singapore? Read the resources from Wikipedia using the links below, and here is a chance to vote!

I strongly think that Sir Stamford Raffles should be the founder of Singapore . It was Sir Stamford Raffles that made the town plan for Singapore although he was not there to accomplish it by himself.Although there were others like john Crawfurd and William Farqhur who also made contributions but Sir Stamford Raffles did the most contribution by making a town plan which was used to build Singapore.(2/8-25)

  5. I believe that Sir Stamford Raffles founded Singapore because he introduced Western culture and way of life to this region of the world. His presence offered a unique and alternative form of leadership to that which the locals were accustomed to. It was a watershed period which led to the rise and modernization of our country.
